System Sizing Kit (Est 10,000 gallons/kit).
This kit contains enough non-toxic Ionic Halide to measure the total volume of a system with an estimated volume of up to 10,000 gallons. If you want to know how many gallons a system contains, this kit will let you do it easily. Such detailed volume information is useful if you need to determine the amount of biocide to add to a cooling tower, or the amount of Glycol or corrosion inhibitor to purchase for a closed water loop. Use one jar of System Sizing Compound per every estimated 10,000 gallons of system capacity and we can get you the exact volume.
This kit contains a non-toxic Ionic Halide which you add to the system through a chemical pot (shot or bypass) feeder. Click here to see one. It also contains two water sample bottles (used before and after the non-toxic Ionic Halide addition), a return mailer, labels for both bottles and for the mailer, an MSDS sheet, and a test kit instruction sheet. The price of the two water analyses are included in the cost of the kit. Your only additional cost is the cost of mailing this back to our laboratory for analysis.
A synopsis of the instructions (for a closed loop) is:
- Draw a representative sample of the recirculating water using one of the bottles filled to the shoulder.
- Add the System Sizing Compound (non-toxic Ionic Halide) via a pot feeder.
- Allow to circulate for several days.
- Draw a representative sample of the recirculating water using the second bottle filled to the shoulder.
- Be sure to fill in and afix the appropriate label on each bottle and note how many bottles of System Sizing Compound were added.
- Tighten the caps and seal each of the bottles in their respective zip lock bags.
- Place both bottles in the mailer and return to our Laboratory.
After an in-depth analysis, a formal report will be issued outlining the geneal chemistries of the system samples provided as well as the volume capcity of the system in gallon (and/or liters).
Cooling Tower Applications:
To determine the volume of a cooling tower or other open evaporative system, these instructions need to be modified. A faster method with the bleed line close is preferred. It is better to dissolve the System Sizing Compound in water; close the bleed (or blowdown) for several hours; add the solution of the System Sizing Compound to the tower basin or sump; and, of course, drawing samples before and after the addition as you would with the closed system.
Leak Measurement Application:
- First add the System Sizing Compound (non-toxic Ionic Halide) via a pot feeder.
- After 24 hours of circulation, draw a representative sample of the recirculating water using one of the bottles filled to the shoulder.
- Allow to circulate for several days to a week.
- Draw a representative sample of the recirculating water using the second bottle filled to the shoulder.
- Be sure to fill in and afix the appropriate label on each bottle and note how many bottles of System Sizing Compound were added.
- Write on the labels that this is for Leak Rate Determination.
- Tighten the caps and seal each of the bottles in their respective zip lock bags.
- Place both bottles in the mailer and return to our Laboratory.
