Legionella Biofilm Test Kit (also referred to as the Legionella Swab Test Kit):
This test kit is sold under the Albagia, Hydrosense, Lovibond, Orbeco-Hellige, or Tintomere brand names.
The Hydrosense Legionella pneumophila Swab Test Kit is what we regard as the BEST BUY. This is a rapid test, yielding results within 25 minutes. Given that Legionella pneumophila grow in biofilm rather than water it is only natural that people would want to detect the bacterium in its natural habitat rather than waiting until it has reached detectable levels in water. Whether to pinpoint an area of concern or confirm the cleanliness of a system the Legionella Biofilm Test is able to add to your overall understanding of the microbial control in your water system.
This is the Hydrosense Product Number 100144.
This is the Lovibond Product Number 56B006401. L56B006401
Some are calling these test kits Litmus Cell Dipslides. So, we thought we would use that.
This kit contains materials for the performance of 5 test iterations. COMPARE THIS TEST KIT TO A LABORATORY TEST COSTING $150 TO $200 EACH WITH A WAIT TIME OF 10 TO 14 DAYS FOR THE RESULT.
To purchase a 5 pack of Biofilm Coupons for this test kit, Click Here. These are non-metalic coupons much like corrosion coupons that support the growth of sessile bacteria. They can be installed in any of our corrosion coupon racks (Click Here).
The sensitivity of the Biofilm Test Kit is 200 CFU/Liter (0.2 CFU/ml) for Legionella pneumophila Serogroup 1.
- Pinpoint the contamination in a system to allow targeted cleaning.
- Demonstrate cleanliness of an area e.g. after cleaning cooling tower pack.
- A clean water sample does not equate to a clean system: proliferation of Legionella is greater in a biofilm than in water.
- Highly selective – can detect Legionella even in samples with very high background flora.
- Simple to use and fast.
- Results are easy to read and obtained within 25 minutes.
- The test allows immediate understanding and response to contaminated systems.
- Use can reduce risk of outbreaks and litigation.
- Regular use will increase confidence in your Legionella control.
