This test kit will test for:

• n-alkyl(60% C14, 30% C16, 5% C12, 5% C18)dimethylbenzylammonium chloride/n-alkyl(68% C12,32% C14)dimethylethylbenzylammonium chloride AND poly[oxyethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene dichloride]; 1 drop = 10 or 25 ppm QAC/1 drop = 3.5 or 9 ppm polyquat.

Quaternary ammonium compounds, or “quats,” destroy algae by disrupting their cellular membranes. Quats work particularly well against green algae. They are the least expensive, best-selling pool product. Because quats tend to foam, they’re unsuitable for spas. Care should be taken that you do not over feed quats to a cooling tower applications as well since they can foam there as well and cause the precipitation of scale and corrosion inhibitors.
